Death Row Dreams
I've already said I find listening to other people's dreams as interesting as hearing about their diets. I rarely remember my dreams but last night's was vivid and recurring. I will make this quick and if anyone wants to make a stab at analysis, be my guest.

I am on death row. A Robert Prosky-type figure and some other man help me escape. I am free for a day or two then I am sent back to certain death the following weekend. I pass through a courtyard where I see Sandra Bernhard with some friends. She gives me a kiss.

I wake up in a sweat.

Current Mood: determined determined

Interesting that you see Sandra in a death dream.

At least you're not seeing Marianne Faithful, she IS god you know ;)

Marianne Faithful is magic, I agree. The significant part of Sandra being in the dream is she sang "Dream On" at Billy's funeral. Not in person, she was in NY, but I called her and she searched and located a copy of it for me. She loved Billy too. I may have said this before, in fact I know I did, but we saw her do that song once on New Years Eve 1999 and it was one of Billly's favorite Sandra moments.

Speaking of Dreams...

I did several weeks of stand-in work on Sci-Fi's THE DREAM TEAM while it was still being developed and then co-host auditions. I've got a working theory on your dream based on what little I know, but it does allow for a fresh perpspective. Forgive me if I cross a line here but....

It's a guilt trip. Your on Death row, reserved for the worst kind of villain. Two men save you, a Couple saves you from your solidtude and punishment.

You say you are sent back the next day, but you mention no guards and your syntax is passive. It sounds like you return to your pain voluntarily.

But before you do, you witness temptation one last time. Sandra, a gay icon, represents your need for intimacy and lust for sex. Your memory of "DREAM ON", her melody imprinted on a painful day, she is your frustration with the contriditory message of the song, the Promise of it. "Dream until your dreams come true"

More importantly she gives you a kiss, she is giving you permission, your heart is telling you it's okay.

And you wake in a sweat...because your not ready to hear that yet.

And that's okay

Re: Speaking of Dreams...

Holy shit, Shawn, you are freaking me out! I am completely out of my element to either support or refute your analysis but I find much of it compelling and probably on-target.

I'm not sure Sandra represents lust and sex for me - not given our long and somewhat tortured history and I never have viewed her as a gay icon, only a friend and sometimes a pain in the ass.

The thing that stings most about this breakdown is your assertion I return to my pain voluntarily. This is something of which I am vigilant in monitoring as I do not want to be in hurt because I have grown comfortable in it.

It reminds me of one of my favorite Springsteen lyrics from "Living Proof":

There's no keys and no guards,
Just one frightened man
With some old shadows for bars.

Re: Speaking of Dreams...

It's do-able, it'll just take time

Oh man you got me on that one. I have had some pretty messed up dreams but I am yet to have one with Miss Bernhard. =)

Some might say having Sandra Bernhard pop up in your dream is a nightmare but I wouldn't be one of them.

When are you leaving for the cruise?

Already on the cruise. The ship has a Internet cafe so I can surf. =)

Wow! Ship to shore surfing. How cool is that? I hope you're having a restful and fun time.

Hmmmm...I'm planning to take a class in dream analysis next month! I've always heard that death in dreams symbolizes life.

Beats me! But I'm such a skeptic that I think a vivid dream like that means that I ate something spicey or cheesy before I went to bed.

Sorry for this complete lack of help, but as you get to know me better, you'll find I am good at being inept in a large variety of situations.....
