I have been working on a freelance project that is driving me crazy. It is producing comedy clips for Branson, MO radio so I have been listening to a lot of Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and other country comics along with Henny Youngman and Don Rickles. A little of that shit goes a long way. And I only have to do one hundred of them!
Friday night I went to the Skirball for an event that was just great! Saw some old friends which was great. One friend, Sue, wants to start a video project for foster kids. It would be going into group homes and giving the kids cameras and helping them express themselves creatively. It is a great idea and one in which she wants my help. I gladly will give it as it gets closer to my goal of the William Ledbetter Foundation for Children.
Saturday night was a huge Hollywood party thrown by a female comic friend and it was so much fun. It was black tie and everyone was dressed up and in a good mood. It was one of the first times I felt free and open and not on the verge of tears. I met some terrific people (including Nina and George from 24 - they're a couple!).
Sunday was spent doing these fucking clips then last night Dean and me went to the 9th anniversary of Uncabaret. We had a great time. We got there too early and walked around Santa Monica Blvd. in the heart of Boystown. It confirmed our dismay and embarrassment of gay "culture" and how glad we are to live in Venice rather than the ghetto. Where's a closet when you need one?
This crazy job offer I've gotten is both exciting and frightening. Not because I don't have the confidence to know I can do a great job of it. I just I don't have enough information right now to start putting things together. I am vague about it in this entry because I have not signed a contract yet but I will report on everything about the gig when I sign.
